So this week has had quite a few funny Gen quotes......
Gen and Robert were both wearing their brown sweatshirts with their hoods up. They looked like a small gang. Gen remarks "Daddy, we kinda weird...."
In the car today, Gen announces "Mommy, something bothering me."
"Ok, what is bothering you?"
She tells me "I sick."
"What part of you is sick, Genny?"
"My sock. It's ok, Mommy take it to the doctor and it get better." [The sock was twisted..]

12 things on a Tuesday
Eh, why not? Welcome to my head....
1. I'm over the moon that my new sewing machine will sew on a button.
2. I'm worried that the sewing machine is significantly smarter than me...
3. And that it might turn on me someday.
4. Although I really like to cook and eat...
5. I really hate cleaning up the kitchen..
6. ...and leftovers.
7. I don't like it when people sign e-mails with "Regards, "
8. It makes me think they don't like me at all.
9. Surely there's another option.
10. I'm hoping that Space Bags have been significantly improved in the last 7 years.
11. Last time I tried to use them, they all sprung leaks... and re-inflated themselves....
12. And exploded out of the closet on my head.
12 1/2. I don't like things falling on my head.
Hope nothing falls on your head today!

And they will know I am pregnant by my cart...
Quick trip to the grocery store, sans 2-year old. A very dangerous mission.
As I was checking out, I noticed that I had quite a heavy proportion of sugar, chocolate, and other ... well, unhealthy stuff. It really looked like the cart of a pregnant lady:
3 muffin mixes
2 brownie mixes
graham crackers, marshmallows and a Hershey bar
sugar cookie dough (this was at least so Genny could decorate Valentines cookies...)
stuff to cook one actual meal
strawberries (not bad... but considering I was planning on putting them with some sort of chocolate sauce.... not that good either)
...
So I got home and a girl scout had been to the house in my absence and of course Robert bought a few boxes.
So if you are thinking at this moment that's not the healthiest cart for a pregnant lady, I can't say I disagree with you, but I implore you to consider what a human being using your nether regions as a trampoline 24 hours a day would drive you to do!

Genevieve waterskiis on land
This is where Genevieve waterskiis around the yard. She wanted to. I thought it was hilarious!

The Longsuffering Daisy Dog
This evening Gen made a Daisy-burrito out of blankies. I think she was trying to be nice, or trying to force Daisy into one of her favorite games, Putting People to Bed. It's really a testament to Daisy that she tolerated this game not once but several times.
UPDATE: All day Daisy has been lurking around this blanket as if asking to be re-burritoed. Funny dog.

Starting 'Nastics
Genevieve started gymnastics today at AC in a Mommy-and-Me class for 2-4 year olds. She was quite excited about it, but really had no idea what we were going to do. She's been telling me for a week she was going to "make nastics".
Not really knowing what to expect myself, I just told her she would get to run and jump and see other kids and do what the nice lady asked her to do. It turned out to be a good experience! She walked on the balance beam and jumped on the trampoline. She bunny-hopped across the floor like an expert but flatly refused to do the bear crawl across the floor (who knows?).
Oh and by the way, I counted how many times she asked "whachoo gonna do, Mommy?" on the way from Hobby lobby to AC and then back home: 17. whachoo gonna do.

Whatchoo gonna do?
My Genny has a catchphrase: "Whatchoo gonna do?"
She says this about 100 times a day, and it's usually "Whatchoo gonna do, Mommy?" or "Whatchoo gonna do, Daddy?" In the car, in the house, all day, every day. Every occasion, and repeated over and over and over and over.... well, you get the picture.
It was sort of cute (albeit puzzling) at first, and now it has descended into the realm of annoying. I have no idea where she picked it up, but I expect that one of these days, someone around us will innocently ask "whatchoo gonna do?" and I will have to punch them in the face.

Weird things said to pregnant women part 2
Today Gen and I drove through a drive through. The mid-twenties man who handed our drinks to us looked in the car and asked
"Wow, is that your stomach???"
Um, yes. {Seriously, we're discussing this?}
"You got a baby in there?"
Um, yes. {Wouldn't admit to it at this point if I didn't....}
"Well, it's big!"
Thank you. {Drive away horrified... but drinking my drink so it's not that bad...}

Weird things said to pregnant women....
So now I think I'm officially big enough that strangers feel it's ok to comment on the fact that I'm pregnant. I took a picture of myself today so that you have a frame of reference, since today I'm attracting quite a lot of weird attention.... and that way you can decide for yourself if I deserve it or not........
Weird comment #1: [Walk up to counter to pay for purchase] Saleslady says, "Oh, I just noticed you're pregnant. I didn't see your belly until you set it on the counter." {Hmmm? This is possible, though. I've lost all sense of the edges of my body and am probably setting all kinds of things in inappropriate places.}
Weird comment #2: [Standing in line to return something at Wal-Mart]
Lady behind me asks when I am due, and I answer "April."
She responds with "Well, you look like you could have it today. You're big! I bet you don't make it to April. You'll probably have a preemie." {Wow....}
Seriously.....

The New Baby's Name
Genevieve has discovered letters (sort of) and likes to pretend to write her name (or my name, or Daisy's name...) when she is coloring. It's usually a lovely conglomeration of scribbles.
The new baby's name has been a major topic of discussion at our house, and we haven't settled on anything. And even though we don't know what we are having, we've narrowed it down to a boy or a girl, and it needs a name either way.
So this morning I was quite interested and hopeful when Gen announced she was going to write new baby's name on the "mail." I just wish I could read little girl scribbles!

Attack of the Duster!

Robert enlisted Gen's help in cleaning the living room and unleashed her with a duster. Yes, that is her dinner smeared on her face. Yes, still with the princess dress, but a different day than the last princess dress picture.... But the funniest thing is the quote that goes with this picture--as she came running at me with the duster like a sword, she asked:
"Can my bwush yo teeth?"

go ahead... call PETA.

We've discovered princess dresses at our house. And crowns. And princess sparkly net gloves that seemed like a good idea until about the 10th time I wrangled them onto her little fingers. (Thanks, Target dollar section!) With her wand, Genny dispenses "magic" onto people by beating them senseless with her wand.
And even Daisy's a princess.
And, you can't see it, but Gen is insisting that I carry around a wand as well since I told her I don't have a princess dress.
Wishing you happy sparklyness and nonviolent magic from the Poling house!

2008 in review....12 months of Polings

January was fabulous because Gen started walking.
I'm sure important things happened in February. I don't happen to remember what they were.
By March Gen was really talking up a storm.
April was good because it was when Robert started his new job.
May was my cousin Lauren's wedding and a fun trip with Nana and Pop to Galveston.
June was when Genny decided that the pool was terrifying and Wendy observed her 32nd birthday.
July was Wendy's first ever craft show and we saw our Poling cousins at the cousins reunion.
In August we found out we were having another baby.
September was a return to teaching after a good summer break!
In October Gen turned 2 and Robert took his PE exam. Robert turned 31, and Wendy had 2 more craft shows.
November was a whirlwind of food and fun.
In December Genevieve decided Santa was terrifying and we found out Robert passed his PE exam. We also celebrated 6 years of living in Amarillo.
AND.... we hope you all have a blessed 2009!
