wendy flirts with disaster in Wal-Mart

I have always joked that if I am arrested, it will probably be for something that happened at Wal-Mart. Today was a close scrape.

I was standing in the vitamin aisle, and I heard a screaming kid careening toward me. His mom was pushing the cart, and he was sitting in the front, screaming bloody murder. She was moving as fast as she could. She looked stressed as she zoomed past me.

An older man yelled at her as she went by. "Shut him up, Mom!"

She yelled over her shoulder as she turned the corner. "Shut your damn mouth!"

Yikes! I thought. Back to vitamins.

So then the man turns to me and says "she'll be visiting him in jail. {mumble, mumble}"

This was too much for me.

So I turned to him and said "you know what, I bet she's trying her best and she certainly doesn't need your comments to help her parent her kid!"

This made him mad. "Well, she wasn't doing anything!"

"That's not your business and I bet she was doing her best. You certainly weren't helping anyone!"

Well, she wasn't trying--she wasn't doing anything at all! and he was screaming! My parents would have....."

I didn't get to hear what horrible punishment his parents would have inflicted. Because right there I realized I really wanted to hit him or start screaming or make a horrible scene right there in the middle of Walmart. I wanted to yell for all the moms with kids to come help me out. And that would be inappropriate. So I turned my back and pushed my cart away.

You see, my children scream in Wal-Mart. Not all the time. But often. And usually it's because I'm being a good parent. You know, because I buckled them in. Or stopped them from leaping off the cart. Or didn't buy them toys or candy.
Sometimes they scream and it's because they don't want to be in the cart. Or in Wal-Mart.
I'm going to assume this lady is in the same boat. The little boy was about 18 months old. Kids that age throw fits. Considering she was leaving the pharmacy, maybe her kid was sick. Maybe not. Maybe he was just being a brat. Even the best kids do that sometimes. And usually at walmart.

Regardless, I just couldn't stand that nasty old coot yelling at her.

I support your response fully Wendy! She was probably trying to get out as fast as she could and was well aware how annoying her child was being. It's hard taking kids to Wal-Mart! Serena

Just the title alone says it all! I can't tell you how many days I want to do the same thing to people, especially the ones that cut in line, pick up merchandise to look at it and not put it back in the same place, leave their carts in the middle of the parking lot instead of pushing them back to the front or cart bin, and the ones that try to play "let's make a deal" on their meds.

Okay, so that leaves only about 5% of the customers I deal with not getting on my every nerve!!

Love the post, Wendy!
