today has been a rough day. so this is where I attempt to look at it humorously to make it better.
Today was "big girl" gymnastics.
The main (only) requirement to go to big girl gymnastics is that you be potty trained.
There are signs posted telling you to take your kid to the potty before class.
We got there early to do so.
And yet about 10 minutes before class was over, the door opened (and we all gasped.... we knew something awful was coming for one of us...) and the teacher yelled "Genny's mommy!"
ugh. Guess whose kid ended up in a puddle today.
A really, really nice grandmotherly type lady offered to hold Audrey while I cleaned up the mess. Bless her heart.
We've really been working on Gen to try new foods.
In the spirit of Green Eggs and Ham, we insist that she doesn't really know if she doesn't like something unless she tries it.
I think she has found the weakness in our plan, though.
Today she decided to try putting her nectarines in mustard. And declared it "really good."
And then she insisted I try it.
Wanting to follow what I've been trying to teach her, I choked down a bite of mustard covered nectarine.
It was not really good.
Not even a little bit.
Audrey decided today that she doesn't want to take a bottle anymore.
She's made it quite clear.
She refuses the bottle, looks right at me, and latches onto my arm. hmm.
Genny thinks today is Musical Monday.
She's made everything into a song today.
This afternoon during rest time she sat on her bed and sang "Mommy please come get me out of naptime please please please" for over an hour at the top of her lungs.
I'm pretty sure this does not qualify as "resting."
Later she sang "Come wipe the poopy off my bottom" from the bathroom.
ahem.
I've discovered that Genny can't walk in a straight line.
This is a little distressing.
We've always known that motor skills are not exactly Genny's best asset. But that's ok.
She held her head up late, walked late, etc... but that's not a big deal.
She doesn't want to ride her tricycle. That's ok.
Today we went for a walk and she pushed her baby stroller and I pushed Audrey's stroller, and I realized she can't walk in a straight line.
hmmmm. oh well, she comes by that naturally.
on both sides.
I'm hopeless at sports.
It is truly a testimony to my dad that he put me in every possible sport and then helped me at home to try to become competent....
and it never, ever worked.
I have almost no depth perception, so anything involving a ball (or catching, or throwing) is out. I finally got involved in track, and I was thrilled to find I could do that.
THEN, cruelty of cruelites, they put me on the relay.
Here, run with this damn stick... and hand it to someone while running...... and, oh by the way, if you drop it we lose and everyone will know it's your fault.....
But I digress....
Audrey drools a lot. a LOT.
And she likes Genny's toys.
And when she slobbers on them, it upsets Genny. So when Genny finds something slobbery, she insists I "clean" it.
Today her baby had to be cleaned with "baby spray."
Please don't tell her that Febreze is not actually "baby spray" or "bear spray"
actually, if she asks you, try not to commit on what Febreze actually is.....
who knows what it might need to be tomorrow.
remember a while ago when Genny called yellow things orange? And I was pretty sure it was just to torment me? She has now explained to me that it was too hard to say yellow.
Now she is calling all orange things yellow.
And I'm certain that it's just to torment me this time.

View from the poolside
How could I let all summer go by without pictures of Genny at the pool?
She loves her floaties. I love her floaties.
And here's Audrey, kicking back poolside as sister entertains her.....
